In 2021, EGU will be hosting vEGU21: Gather Online (#vEGU21), a fully virtual meeting that will be held in place of the General Assembly in Vienna. FutureDAMS research Director Prof. Julien Harou is co-convening an EGU session on water resource systems under uncertainty and would like to invite abstract submissions.
HS5.2.3 Water resources policy and management-systems solutions in an uncertain world
While water plays a critical role in sustaining human health, food security, energy production and ecosystem services, factors such as population growth, climate and land use change, increasingly threaten water quality and quantity. The complexity of water resources systems requires methods integrating technical, economic, environmental, legal, and social issues within a framework that allows for the design and testing of efficient and sustainable water management strategies to meet the pressing global water challenges of the 21st century. Current systems analysis practice adopt a practical, problem-oriented approach for addressing the most challenging water issues of our times. It is marked by competing objectives, interdisciplinary processes, and dynamic adaptation under high levels of uncertainty.
The session will feature state-of-the-art contributions on systems approaches and solutions for water management in an uncertain environment.
Invited speakers:
Upmanu Lall, Columbia University
Jonathan Herman, University of California, Davis
The deadline for abstract submission is 13 January 2021, 13:00 CET.
